Why this theme exists
This theme applies a people-first approach to theme development. It is designed as a modern, text-first block theme: visually distinctive without relying on decorative imagery.
This approach supports accessibility and clarity of content. It also avoids the common pattern of generic stock images diluting identity on content-driven sites.
Accessibility approach
Accessibility is treated as a design constraint, not an enhancement.
Key considerations:
- Text-first design reduces cognitive load and visual noise.
- Colour choices aim for vibrancy while maintaining comfortable contrast and readability.
- Semantic structure is prioritised over reliance on ARIA as a fallback.
- Keyboard navigation is deliberately structured and tested.
- Navigation is intentionally minimal to prioritise content flow.
Technical characteristics
This is an opinionated, focused theme.
- Built as a block theme with minimal structural assumptions.
- Emphasises consistency over breadth of configuration.
- Designed to work with core editor capabilities rather than custom abstractions.
- Templates are intended to be customised rather than replaced.
- Tested with WordPress 6.0–6.9.
Intended use
Best suited for text-driven sites where content is the primary interface.
The theme can serve as:
- a complete solution for content-focused blogs
- a stable base for further extension
- a parent theme for site-specific customisation
This site runs the theme with a child theme that adds custom blocks and contextual colour accents. This separation is recommended to preserve updateability.
Open development
Development happens in the open. Issues, suggestions, and discussion are welcome through Github or direct contact.
The repository history documents design and technical decisions as they evolve.
Evolution
The project began as an exploratory block theme.
The current version retains the original concept while formalising accessibility, structure, and consistency for production use.
